About
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology & Political Science at Jacksonville State University. My main focus is political philosophy and theory. In addition, I have interests in American government, research methodology, and international human rights.
Previously, I worked as journalist. My articles were published in outlets including the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Northern Star, Freeport Journal Standard, and more. My work won awards in a number of categories; especially my investigative reporting regarding the expenditures Northern Illinois University (NIU) incurred from its participation in college football bowl games. In addition to reporting on college athletics, I covered the shootings at NIU, composed editorials, and worked as an editorial board assistant for the Chicago Tribune.

When away from the office I enjoy spending time with my family, attending concerts, going to sporting events, adventuring in the great outdoors, and exploring my community.
When living in Chicago, I was part of a cover band playing anything from the Beatles to Ke$ha. While I'm not much of a musician (my strongest instrument is the viola), I show my support for the art through going to shows, concerts, and festivals.
I am a massive fan of Chicago sports. My passion is baseball. 2016 was a special year, as the Chicago Cubs finally brought a championship to my family.
As an Eagle Scout, I developed a love for backpacking, whitewater rafting, rocking climbing, camping, and other outdoor activities. I continue to explore the outdoors (and serve as a Den Leader), but I also use my Scouting skills to travel and enjoy our world.
